As always, beautiful and eloquent writing! And for me, especially poignant as every June between 1980 and 2000, some of the San Francisco School teachers and I took sixty 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to the Big Trees group campsite for five glorious days. Stories abound about the rattlesnake, the raccoons, the bear, the helicopters looking for an escaped convict, the snow falling on our morning bagels, alongside the bagpipe morning wake-up, the every day hikes, the Arnold softball game, the field trip to Mercer Caverns, the night walk, the square dance, the singing and storytelling around the campfire and so much more. Glorious times in a most beautiful place and it sounds like your ranch was close by!

Gary, I love this tribute to family, wise/elderly trees and Spring. I especially enjoyed the mention of Trillium which I call "a trinity upon trinity" in a poem I wrote some years ago about Southwest Virginia in Spring.
